According to Bar and Bench, a lawyer located in Mumbai has filed lawsuits against BookMyShow and Live Nation for allegedly engaging in a ticketing fraud involving the Coldplay event in Mumbai.
In response to the complaints of Coldplay fans across India, Amit Vyas, the Founder Partner of Vertices Partners, has formally filed a criminal complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Mumbai.
Vyas has claimed in the complaint that BookMyShow engaged in unethical behavior that hindered true fans from purchasing tickets during the official sale, which began on September 22.
According to the Bar and Bench report, he also accused the site of controlling access by either restricting or logging out of legal users, which allowed ticket bots and black-market operators to take over the sales.
Additionally, he mentioned that tickets on the platform quickly sold out before going up for outrageous prices on third-party resale websites like Viagogo.
Vyas is attempting to file a First Information Report (FIR) under many provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including organized crime, deception, criminal conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust, according to the report. The article also stated that he plans to file a public interest litigation (PIL) with the Bombay High Court with the goal of establishing regulations for significant events to assist stop such fraudulent practices in the future.
